This unusual box is modelled in a rare Cocks and Bettridge design, being of escutcheon form. The cover is engraved with an outer band of foliate spears, on a prick dot ground, surrounded by a trellis work central panel around a vacant cartouche. The sides and base are decorated with prickdot bands and the cover opens up to reveal a finely gilded interior. The grille is also of a rare design with an outer border of beaded roundels around a central filigree scale work panel, with cascading lobes above. The Vinaigrette is in excellent condition and is very well marked.
