This exceptional silver gilt vinaigrette is modelled as a railwayman's lantern with corrugated top and ring handle. The body is profusely chased with feathery scrolls and the bull's eye lense revolves to show three colours, red, green and clear.  The front opens up to reveal a grille pierced and engraved with scrolls and a central flowerhead.  The base opens up so that the sponge could be placed inside.  The quality and gauge of this rare piece is exceptional.  Although unmarked, this piece most probably was made in the workshops of Sampson Mordan of London.

Height: 1.45 inches, 3.63 cm.

Diameter of the base: 0.6 inches, 1.5 cm.
