The Dish is oval in form with an unusual shaped raised rim decorated with gadrooning. The border is engraved, on one side, with a contemporary Armorial, flanked by supporters, with a Coronet above and Motto below. The other side is engraved with a contemporary Crest, with Coronet above. This piece is of the finest quality, as would be expected from the workshops of this great silversmith and its condition and weight are excellent. The Armorial, Crest and Motto are those of Thomas Reynolds, later Reynolds-Morton, 4th Baron Ducie of Tortworth, County Gloucestershire. In 1837 he was raised in the peerage as the 1st Earl Ducie. He was born in 1776, educated at Eton and Exeter College Oxford, FSA 1814, FRS 1814 and Lieutenant Colonel of the Gloucestershire, 1800. In 1797 he married Lady Frances Herbert, only daughter of the 1st Earl of Carnarvon. They had together five daughters and a son, Henry, who succeeded his father upon his death in 1840. Their Seats were Tortworth Court, Gloucestershire and Sarsden House, Chipping Norton, County Oxfordshire. A painting of the 1st Earl is shown and also an image of their Seat, Tortworth Court.
