The Pail stands on three very unusual pierced feet with central flower head. The main body displays an unusual wavy gadrooned rim and the sides are divided into vertical panels pierced and engraved with trailing foliate scrolls and flower heads. The sides display one of Spilsbury's rarest subjects, this being a dog chasing an exotic bird. The front, however, also displays a most magnificent eagle with wings outstretched. The piercing and engraving has been executed to the finest standard. The pail has a twisted arched handle and blue glass liner. This piece is in quite excellent condition and is very well marked in the base.
Francis Spilsbury is one of the most desirable Pail makers of the 18th century and examples with feet and displaying these animals are highly sought after and extremely rare.
