This exceptionally fine and rare Egg Cruet has a rectangular gadrooned platform base and rim and stands on four cast winged paw feet, flanked by acanthus leaves.  The corner supports are decorated with shell details and scrolls.  The beautiful bi-furcated carrying handle is also decoarted with shells and scrolls, as well as tiny bunches of grapes.  The six egg cups have a vase shaped form, with gadrooned rim, egg and dart foot and gilded interiors.  The main body also displays a horizontal girdle around the upper section.  The Cruet is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the frame and on each of the cups.  William Elliot was a very fine silversmith who made pieces of unusual, innovative, design including many commissions for the Royal family and noble households.
