The Mug stands on a spreading circular foot decorated with reeding. The substantial baluster shaped main body rises to an everted reeded rim and the lower section is decorated with an applied girdle. The scroll handle is decorated with a crisp leaf capped top. The front of the main body is engraved with a set of contemporary script initials and the base displays a very crisp set of marks. John King was a very good maker of Mugs and Tankards and the interior displays fine original hammer marks from when it was raised. Quart Mugs, which hold two pints, are extremely rare as very few were made. It is many years since we last offered one for sale and this example has to be one of the finest over all of the years.
