This very rare box is modelled in the form of a turtle shell and both the cover and the base are engraved with intertwined lattice work to simulate the patterning on the shell. This piece has a flush hinge and finely gilded interior. The box is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the inside of the base and cover. Although we have offered one turtle shell vinaigrette, this is the first time we have ever seen a turtle shell snuff box. The quality of design and production is exceptional.
