Tea Canisters, as opposed to Caddies, are scarce, as very few were made.  This piece is modelled in the plain bead form and displays a tall oval body, decorated with beading at the base and on the rim.  The flat shoulder area rises to an oval, pull off, cover which would double up as a tea measure.  The front of the main body, and the cover, is engraved with a contemporary Crest, above the motto "Non Sibi - Not for Himself", engraved on a banner below.  The Canister is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the base and with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the underside of the cover.   This is only the second canister of this form we have offered over the years, the other of a different design and being made by Hester Bateman.

William Vincent made fine Tea Caddies, as well as a range of tea related wares.  He had workshops at 8, St. Ann's Lane, Wood Street, when this piece was made.
