This rare Vinaigrette is of the unusual petal form and is parcel gilt. Parcel gilt is where the whole surface is gilded and then partly engraved away to show the silver colour as well, so that both the silver and gilt colours are seen on the surface, which gives a beautiful effect not often seen on Vinaigrettes. The cover displays different designs of engine turning, as well as pluming scrolls and flower heads. The base is similarly engraved and the sides are decorated with gilded scrolls. This example has a serpentine shaped thumb piece. The interior is finely gilded and displays a grille pierced and engraved with foliate sprays. The interior is very well marked and the underside of the grille is marked with the makers mark and sterling mark.
