A rare George III "Hooded" Strainer Spoon made in London circa 1775 by Thomas Chawner.

The Strainer is modelled in the Old English Pattern and the top of the stem is engraved with an unusual contemporary Crest. The bowl is very unusually hooded and is plainly pierced with roundels for straining vegetables. Strainers usually have central divisions, however a smaller number were made with partly covered bowls. This piece is also bottom marked and although the marks are squeezed, there is a makers mark, sterling mark and London mark. This piece is in excellent condition and is of fine quality, as would be expected from this quality spoon maker.
