This rare example, possibly for a bottle or decanter, stands on four scroll feet, decorated with a reeded border. The Stand is oval in form with a raised rim which is unusually pierced with arched vertical pails. The upper section of the rim is also most unusually, engraved with a herring bone band. The main body is engraved with a pretty band of entwined ovals and flower heads, as well as floral and foliate garlands, surrounding a prick dot cut cornered vacant cartouche. The stand is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse. Galleried stands and trays are extremely rare from the Eighteenth century, especially from the workshops of Hester Bateman.
