This is an unusual design to find by Hester Bateman as it usually bears the maker's mark of Peter and Ann Bateman. The elongated bowl is fluted to simulate a shell and the long handle is decorated with a feather edge border, vacant oval cartouche and eclectic mix of bright cut designs. A similar form by Peter & Ann Bateman is shown in "Caddy Spoons" by Captain John Norie, Plate 18, Figure B. The Caddy spoon is in excellent condition and is well marked on the reverse including the incuse duty mark which is only seen in 1784 and 1785, where the King's Head is contained within a cut cornered punch.
Length: 3.75 inches, 9.38 cm.
Width of the bowl: 1.5 inches, 3.75 cm.
