This example comes from the workshops of one of England's most famous silversmithing families, this being the Bateman family. The Mustard Pot is plain in design and oval in form, with a reeded band at the base and on the rim. The high domed cover displays a pretty pierced fan shaped thumb piece and this piece displays a plain scroll carrying handle. This piece is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the base and with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the cover. Peter, Ann and William Bateman were only in partnership from 1801 to 1805, therefore the number of pieces in existence which bear their mark is limited.
