The Box has a very unusual slender broad rectangular form, with bombe sides chased with flower heads, scrolls and fruit on a matted ground.  The base is decorated with a crisp engine turned panel and the cover displays a very unusual hunting scene with a huntsman in Georgian costume holding a musket, with gun dog in front, which is all contained in a detailed countryside landscape with an engine turned frame.  The interior displays fine original gilding and crisp hallmarks.  The box is in excellent condition and is of a very good weight.  John Tongue, the silversmith, was an exceptional box maker and his quality of design and production was equal to the great Nathaniel Mills.  He made unusual designs, which is clearly seen with this box.
