The Salt Cellars have a circular baluster form and stand on three finely detailed cast lion paw feet. The sides are decorated with raised floral and foliate garlands. The unusual everted rim is palely gilded and displays foliage, flower heads and roses. The interiors are also gilded and the base displays very crisp hallmarks and a contemporary initial O in script engraving. The salts are in excellent condition and are of the finest quality, shown by the very good weight. William Bateman II was the last of the Bateman dynasty, being the founder, Hesters, great grandson. William II was registered as a large worker in 1828, however examples of his work are not seen often. This also represents an early example of his work.
