The Coconut main body stands on a stepped domed silver foot which is decorated with reeding. This example has a plain silver rim and the front also displays an oval disc cartouche engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. The coconut is in excellent condition and the interior of the foot is marked with the clear distinctive makers mark of Langlands and Robertson. Although Newcastle specialised in the production of drinking vessels, this is the first time we have seen a coconut cup coming from this small centre of silver production.
