The Candlesticks are cast and stand on a circular foot which is decorated with two beaded bands and rises to a beautiful section of swirl fluting which was a popular form of decoration in Schofields workshops. The main shaft is decorated with tapering flat fluting and beading, as well as a swirl section. The tulip shaped capitals are also decorated with everted flat fluted bands. The circular pull off nozzles display an outer beaded band. The Candlesticks are fully marked in the foot and with the makers mark on the nozzle. The quality of design and production is outstanding as would be expected by this silversmith who was patronised by King George III and his son, the Prince of Wales. In our opinion John Schofield made the finest candlesticks in London at this date.
