The glass bowl is modelled in the Classical tradition, as a covered urn, and stands on a square pedestal foot with cut corners. The oval main body is facetted and is engraved with horizontal linear bands. The sides rise to a silver scalloped rim decorated with beading and engraved with bright cut designs. The high domed cover has a silver base, also decorated with bright cut engraving, and terminates in a writhen finial. This piece is in quite excellent condition and the side is cut for a ladle to serve the cream. Phipps & Robinson were exceptional silversmiths who specialised in fine silver mounted pieces, as well as small wares such as snuff boxes, vinaigrettes and wine labels.
