An exceptional George III Serving Trowel made in London in 1774 by Burrage Davenport.

The Trowel has a triangular shaped blade with feather edge engraved border and wavy edge at the top of the blade, where the handle is attached. The blade is beautifully pierced and engraved with scroll work and flower heads and an unusual central basket motif. The cast feather edge handle is beautifully pierced and is attached to the main body with a raying shell moulding. The slice is in excellent condition and the blade displays some of the most most finely executed piercing we have seen on an item of this nature. Burrage Davenport was a specialist pierced worker, of exceptional quality, who also made very fine baskets. The trowel would have been used for serving on the dining table and this piece is very well marked on the reverse of the blade.
