Pairs of Pepper Casters of any size are extremely rare from the Georgian period and these are of a larger size than normally seen, which is much better for usage.  Each Caster stands on a circular pedestal foot decorated with reeding.  The vase shaped main body rises to a shaped pull-off cover, decorated with reeding and pierced with entwined bands of roundels.  The front of each piece is engraved with a contemporary Regimental Crest.  The Peppers are in excellent condition and are fully marked in the foot and with the date letter and sterling mark in the cover.  John Emes was a superior maker in terms of quality and production, often of innovative design, as seen with these pieces.
