An exceptional George III Sauce Tureen made in London in 1817 by Joseph Craddock & William Ker Reid.

The Tureen is of a large baluster form and stands on four cast lion paw feet, attached to the main body with raying shell mouldings flanked by acanthus leaves. The main body rises to an everted rim decorated with gadrooning, anthemions and further shells flanked by foliage. The leaf capped scroll handles are also decorated with shells and have foliate mouldings where they meet the side of the body. The slightly domed cover displays a band of lobing, shells flanked by acanthus leaves and anthemions. It rises to a foliate platform and leaf capped, finely detailed, serpent handle. The front and reverse is engraved with a shield shaped Armorial, with a motto engraved on a banner below. The Arms are those of the Barrow family. The Tureen is of the finest quality in terms of design and production, as would be expected from these silversmiths. Both the main body and cover are in exceptional, crisp, condition and are very well marked on both sections.
