Each is modelled in a shaped rectangular form and stands on four cast oyster shell feet. The shaped main body displays a horizontal girdle decorated with basket weave. The everted rim is decorated with lobing in addition to shells at each end, flanked by acanthus foliage. Each has a finely gilded interior and displays a full set of hallmarks. This unusual design, with cast shell feet and basket weave, was exclusive to the Pontifex workshops. Each is in excellent, original, condition.
