This very rare Vinaigrette is broad rectangular in form with a slightly domed cover and base both decorated with detailed acorns and oak leaves, in raised relief, all on a matted ground and displaying an unusual outer frame of flower heads and foliate scrolls. The sides are decorated with corded and reeded bands. The interior is finely gilded and displays a grilled pierced and engraved with raying flower heads and pluming scrolls. This piece is well marked and in excellent condition. Parcel gilding refers to the technique where all of the piece is gilded and then some is removed to create a two colour effect, showing the silver and silver gilt surface. This is the first time we have seen this design of Vinaigrette.
Length: 1.45 inches.
