The Coasters are circular in form with wavy dipping gadrooned rims. The sides are beautifully pierced with bold scroll work, flower heads and, unusually, stylised tulips. The front of each piece displays a circular cartouche, finely engraved with a contemporary Crest, with the Coronet of a Baron above. Each piece is marked in the piercing and they have their original turned fruitwood bases, below a corded band. Thomas Nash was a specialist pierced worker of fine quality, who specialised in the production of wine coasters and serving slices. Coasters were first introduced into England during the 1760's therefore these represent a very rare early example, made in a most beautiful, uncommon, style. The Crest is that of Baron Rivers, created 1776.
Height: 2 inches, 5cm.
