A rare George III Mustard Pot made in Edinburgh circa 1790 by Francis Howden.

The Mustard Pot is of the drum form and displays a reeded rim and base. The reeding unusually goes around the edge of the hole for the spoon and the upper section of the main body is pierced with vertical pails. This piece has a plain domed cover, beaded scroll handle and very unusual Neo-Classical urn thumb piece. The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Armorial with Crest and the Motto Fulget Virtus - Virtue shines forth above. The Arms are those of the Bell family. Scottish Mustard Pots were not made in great quantities and examples are rare.
