A rare George III Acorn Caddy Spoon made in London in 1813 by Joseph Ash.

A rare George III Acorn Caddy Spoon made in London in 1813 by Joseph Ash.

Sold

The Caddy Spoon is modelled in a very rare "Acorn" design with elongated bowl shaped and engraved with trellis work designs to simulate the shape and textured surface of the acorn.  The fiddle pattern handle is engraved with prick dot borders and a wriggle work vacant cartouche, with foliate motif below.  The Spoon is in excellent condition and is very well marked.  This rare design is not recorded in "Caddy Spoons" by Captain John Norie, which says something for its scarcity.  Joseph Ash was a very fine maker, who specialised in the production of small wares, specially snuff boxes and vinaigrettes of outstanding quality.

Length: 3.6 inches, 9 cm.

Width, at the widest point: 1. 45 inches, 3.63 cm
