These rare baskets are circular in form and stand on a ring foot. The slightly baluster bodies, rise to a vertically lobed frieze, below an everted gadrooned rim. The main body is also engraved with a contemporary Crest of entwined dolphins. The cast handle is decorated with a very unusual band of tear drop motifs, containing beads, and central raying flower head, all on a matted ground. The baskets are in excellent condition and are fully marked in the foot. John Bridge was an exceptional silversmith who worked in the circle of Paul Storr. He was appointed to the prestigious position of Goldsmith & Jeweller to the King, as early as 1797. His mark, with a crown above, denoted his important position. Each basket is in excellent condition and are of a very good weight and gauge of silver. This is the first time we have seen this specific design by any silversmith, let alone John Bridge.
