The central section is tubular in form and is scratch engraved with two bands of arrow head designs. The pierced tubular rasp can be kept inside and is unusually made of silver and not steel. The rasp is held in place by a removable cap which is beautifully engraved with a stylised flower head motif. The main body also displays two horizontal raised girdles and the other end is engraved with the contemporary scratch engraved initials "EH". This piece is in quite excellent condition and is fully marked on the main body and with the leopard's head on the rasp and the inside of the cover. This is the first time we have offered a fully hallmarked nutmeg grater from this period. As you will appreciate, the maker's mark of Thomas Kedden is often to be found on these early graters.
Length: 2.75 inches, 6.88 cm.
Diameter at the top and bottom: 0.9 inches, 2.25 cm.
