The Snuff Box is beautifully, and realistically, modelled as a basket, with carved bloodstone cover, base and sides, to simulate the wicker of the basket. This piece is unusually mounted with two colours of gold mounts which are bright cut engraved and the upper mounts are finely chased with raying flower heads, flanked by foliate motifs. This exceptional box is contained within its original leather, silk lined, case. The box is in quite excellent condition and this is the first time we have seen a gold mounted box modelled as a basket, with two colour gold mounts. An important piece which, because it has remained in its case, is in original, crisp, condition.
