This unusual piece has a tubular main body which is beautifully decorated with raised reeded prick dot bands, as well as a band of engraved stylised foliate motifs. The bottom, pull off, cover is plain in design with a bright cut rim and conceals the compartment where the nutmeg grater would have been kept. The unusual high domed cover, is also decorated with bright cut designs and, once, removed reveals the steel grater. This piece is in excellent crisp condition and is fully marked on the bottom cover and with the maker's mark on the top cover. Similar examples are contained within the Robert & Meredith Green collection of Silver Nutmeg Graters and are illustrated on page 63 of the catalogue.
