An unusual Scottish Cream Piggin made in Edinburgh in 1866 by J & W Marshall.

This rare piece has slightly tapering sides and is modelled as a cream churn, with two carrying luggs. The sides are engraved to simulate the planks of wood and the horizontal reeded bands simulate the metal bands on the churn. The front is engraved with a set of contemporary script initials and this piece is very well marked. A similar example is shown in The Queens Silver by A.G. Grimwade, Page 91. These piggins were nearly always made in Scotland.
