A very rare set of six private die oyster forks made in London in 1847 by George Adams.

£695

The Oyster Forks are modelled in the Louis XV pattern which is double struck, being on both the front and the back of the stems.  The top of the front displays a die struck coat of arms, surmounted by a coronet, which are those of the House of Tomburg.  This private die pattern, with attribution, is illustrated: Delmas L. Schrager L ( 2022 ), "Private Die-Struck Heraldic Flatware 1780-1900".  Silver Studies, the Journal of the Silver Society, No. 38. P91.  There is also a piece in the Benson Collection in the Victoria & Albert Museum, (the collection of patterns accumulated by Hunt and Roskell).

Each piece is in excellent crisp condition and clear marks on the reverse of the stem, including a journeyman's mark, who would identify the individual within the workshop who made these pieces.

Length: 5.25 inches.

Weight: 7oz.
