The Tongs are modelled in the fiddle pattern, with wide rectangular grips pierced with scroll work panels. The arched top displays a regimental garter engraved "Dorset" with crown above. The centre of the garter is engraved with the contemporary Crest of Pitt-Rivers. The Tongs are of an exceptional gauge, are very well marked and are in excellent condition. Although termed chop tongs, these could be used for serving a variety of items on the dining table.
