This very fine Egg Cruet has a gadrooned rectangular platform base which stands on four foliate feet flanked by flower heads. The wavy shaped frame is decorated with vertical pails and the corner supports are decorated with lion masks and a band of overlapping quatrefoils. The beautiful bi-furcated carrying handle is decorated with flat fluting, acanthus foliage and an unusual raying Rococo shell at the top. The six egg cups are vase shaped in form and display a top frieze of double shells, scrolls and anthemion motifs. The front of each egg cup is engraved with a contemporary Crest and the interiors are finely gilded. We are offering the egg cruet with an associated set of double struck fiddle, thread and shell egg spoons with gilded bowls made by Henry Holland. The Cruet is fully marked on the frame and each of the egg cups.

Rundell was appointed Jeweller & Royal Goldsmith in 1797. He was one of the finest silversmiths, after Paul Storr, working during this period and by the time of his death, in 1827, he left a fortune of £ 1.25 million pounds, one of the largest estates ever proved. His reputation was re-inforced when he was asked by George IV to make the Crown Jewels for his Coronation in 1821. The Diadem worn by Her Majesty The Queen today, was made by his workshops.
