This beautiful piece shows all of the hallmarks of the work Hester Bateman was famous for.  The Basket stands on a domed foot with beaded rim, and is pierced with unusual ovals containing stylised flower heads.  The rim and arched handle are also decorated with applied beading and the vase shaped main body is pierced and engraved with an unusual and eclectic mix of vitruvian scrolls, flower heads in ovals and flower heads in roundels.  The front of the main body is engraved with a contemporary initial "B", in typical Eighteenth century script lettering.  This beautiful piece is in most excellent condition, has a blue glass liner and is fully marked on the lower section of the main body.
