HESTER BATEMAN. A George III Caddy Spoon made in London 1788 by Hester Bateman.

The Caddy Spoon has an elongated fluted shell bowl and curved handle decorated with entwined bright cut bands and a prick dot tear drop shaped cartouche engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. This is an unusual design to find by Hester Bateman, as these are usually made by the partnership of Peter & Ann Bateman, however this shows that she made the first spoons of this type. A similar design, by this partnership, is shown in "Caddy Spoons" by Captain John Norie, Plate 18, Figure b.
Length: 3.5 inches, 8.75 cm.
Width, across the bowl: 1.5 inches, 3.75 cm.
