The Slice has a navette shaped blade which is pierced with arched pails and a central Neo Classical urn motif, surrounded by scrolls and acanthus foliage. The front and reverse of the blade is engraved with crisp bright cut and prick dot bands. The front of the blade is also engraved with a crossed branch cartouche and a circular boss engraved with a flower head. The double bead handle displays a raised oval cartouche, unusually engraved on one side with a full Armorial of a Lady of the Boswell family of Scotland, contained in a shaped lozenge. The Slice is in excellent condition and is of the finest quality, as would be expected from this maker. It is also unusual to find a full Armorial engraved on a serving slice.
