An extremely rare pair of William IV Hunting Quaiches made in Edinburgh in 1831 by Elder & Company.

Each is of typical form and stands on a ring foot. The sides are beautifully chased with partridges and game birds in a rural landscape all shown on a textured ground. The front of each piece displays a scroll cartouche engraved with a contemporary Crest. The lugs, however, are most unusually chased with a very detailed fox head mask, flanked by leaf capped scrolls. The interiors display original gilding and the base of each displays a crisp set of hallmarks.
To find hunting quaiches which would have been used out in the field, or at the hunt meet, is exceptionally rare. However to find a pair is extremely unusual. The quality, condition and weight of each is quite outstanding, as it would appear that they have had very little use. Elder & Company were very fine silversmiths and their work is nearly always of the finest standard.
