This very unusual George III Toast Rack was made by Emes & Barnard in 1817, in the manner of Paul Storr.  This piece stands on four cast winged paw feet, below a platform base decorated with raying shells, gadrooning and acanthus foliage. The main body has six arched, reeded, divisions and an oval carrying handle above with vacant cartouche below, flanked by acanthus leaves.  Most unusually, each end is decorated with a winged coiled serpent, very much a Paul Storr decorative device.  The Toast Rack is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the underside.
