An extremely rare George III Rural Scene Cream Pail made in London in 1776 by Charles Chesterman.

It is widely considered that these are the rarest design of Cream Pail and unusually stand on three pierced Rococo shell and scroll feet. The Pail shaped main body has a gadrooned rim and is pierced and chased with unusual rural scenes depicting a windmill and bridge, a house, water tower and grazing cow with exotic bird in flight above. There certainly seems to be some Dutch influence in its design. This example has a reed and tie pattern arched handle and blue glass liner. The Pail displays a beaded band at the base and is very well marked. This is only the second example of this design we have offered. It would appear that Chesterman must have specialised in the production of pails and small baskets, as his mark is often to be seen on these pieces.
Height to the rim: 3.2 inches, 8cm.
Diameter at the rim: 2.75 inches, 6.88cm.
