Georgian Muffin Dishes are rare from England, however to find one being made during this period, in Scotland, is extremely unusual. The Dish has a deep stepped base, which rises to a stepped outer border with shaped gadrooned rim. The high domed cover displays an everted gadrooned girdle which terminates in a cast fruiting vine finial. Both the cover and the base are engraved with an unusual contemporary Crest and display a crisp set of hallmarks. Both pieces are in excellent condition and the Crest is that as used by the Forbes family of Scotland. Although termed Muffin Dishes, these are so very usueful for serving many things on the dining table.
Diameter of the base: 9 inches, 22.5 cm.
Height, to the top of the finial: 5.5 inches, 13.75 cm.
Weight: 37oz.
