The Basket stands on a stepped oval pedestal foot decorated with beading and engraved herring bone designs.  The navette shaped main body rises to a wavy rim decorated with applied beading.  The sides are pierced and engraved with two bands of "wave" motifs, as well as stylised flower heads in ovals.  The piercing is interspersed with pretty engraved floral garlands and the front displays an oval vacant cartouche.  The basket has an arched reeded handle and a blue glass liner. This piece is in excellent condition, with very crisp decoration, and a good set of hallmarks in the foot.

Charles Chesterman was apprentice to his father, Charles Chesterman I, and was free in May 1774.  His first mark was entered on 14th February, 1780, with workshops at 62, Fleet Market, when this basket was made.
