These elegant Candlesticks stand on a circular foot which is decorated with stepped reeded bands and a sunken well displaying flat fluting.  The bases rise to a tapering stem, also decorated with flat fluting and horizontal reeded bands.  The sockets are modelled in a tulip shaped form with the same fluted designs as seen on the stem and base.  The pull off nozzles have a raised circular rim.  The base of the stem is engraved with a contemporary shield shaped Armorial and the nozzle, with a Crest.  The base displays a full set of hallmarks and nozzles with the maker's mark, sterling mark and duty mark.  Both pieces are in excellent condition and are of the finest quality in terms of production and design, as to be expected from this fine silversmithing partnership.

The crest is that of Barlow.  The arms are Barlow impaling Crespigny.  Hugh Owen (1729-1809) of Great Nash and Lawrenny, Pembrokeshire married Anne Crespigny, daughter of Philip Champion Crespigny in 1791 as his second wife.  Hugh inherited estates from his mother in 1789 and changed his name to Barlow.  He  served as Member of Parliament for Pembroke from 1774-1809.  Although an opposition Member he did sometimes support the Government.
