The Pail stands on an applied circular spreading foot decorated with reeding.  The circular, slightly baluster, main body rises to an everted rim also decorated with reeding.  Each side displays a cast drop ring handle for carrying.  The Pail is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the underside.  Ice Pails are very rare from the Georgian period and  Henry Nutting was a fine maker who was apprenticed to the prolific silversmiths Charles Wright and Thomas Chawner.  He entered his first mark on the 9th April, 1796, therefore this represents an early example of his work.  He had workshops 38, Noble Street, Foster Lane, when this piece was made.

Height: 4 inches.

Diameter at the rim: 5 inches.

Weight: 12oz.
