The Mug is of the Can form with slightly tapering sides and a tucked in base which is decorated with reeding. This example has a reeded rim and plain scroll handle. The front of the Mug is engraved with a beautifully executed contemporary Armorial of a Lady, as it is contained within a lozenge. The Armorial is surrounded by one of the finest cartouches, which we have seen from this date decorated with brick work, strapwork and Rococo shells. Most unusually, the cartouche is flanked by two detailed cherubs which hold up the blue bell swags. The base is very well marked and the interior displays very fine original hammer marks from when it was originally made. The base is also engraved with the a set of contemporary initials. A very fine example, with excellent colour.
