The set of six Teaspoons are silver gilt and are modelled in the Rat Tail Hanoverian pattern, the top of each stem being engraved with a Crest. All are in excellent condition and are marked with the makers mark and sterling mark. The spoons are contained within a later silk and velvet lined leather case from S.J. Phillips of Bond Street. The inscription on the box shows that the spoons were a gift from the friends of Athelstan Riley on his marriage, in 1887, to the Hon. Andalusia Molesworth, died 1912, the daughter of Samuel, 8th Viscount Molesworth. Athelstan Riley (1858-1945) was an Anglo=Catholic, an English born hymn writer and hymn translator. He went to Pembroke College, Oxford, and gained his BA in 1881 and his MA two years later. In 1909 he moved to Jersey, purchasing Trinity Manor, which he then restored. He remained there throughout the German Occupation and died shortly after the Liberation.
