Robert Sharp

Robert Sharp was born in Newcastle on Tyne and was apprentice to Gawen Nash, from 4th February, 1747. His first mark was entered in partnership with Daniel Smith by 1763. The firm were the principal exponents of the magnificent racecups, particularly for Doncaster, in the Adam taste, including some designed by Adam himself. Candelabra, of French Classical flavour, were another important production, and much dinner plate. The firm almost certainly must have supplied both Parker and Wakelin and later Wakelin and Taylor. Also Jefferys, Jones and Gilbert after their appointment as Royal Goldsmiths in 1784.
