The Tazza stands on a trumpet shaped foot, which is made in two sections and soldered together. The circular top has a raised rim, also displaying a reeded edge. The centre is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a crossed branch cartouche, with tied ribbons above. The Tazza is in excellent condition, has a good colour, and is very well marked on the underside. It is extremely unusual to find a Tazza being made in Scotland and this is the first we have ever offered over all of our dealing years. The Tazza is made in three sections, in total, and soldered together, as is the norm.
The Arms are those of the ancient and important Scots family of Sempill. Created, in 1488, Lords Sempill in the Peerage of Scotland. These are most probably those of John, 13th Lord Sempill. In 1755 he married Janet, daughter and Heiress of Hugh Dunlop of Bishoptoun, County Renfew. He died in 1782.
