A very fine & rare pair of George II cast Sauceboats made in Edinburgh in 1759 by Lothian & Robertson.

The Sauceboats are modelled in a typically Scottish form and stand on a cast collet foot, which is decorated with gadrooning. The baluster, elongated, main body also rises to a gadrooned rim, with a double scroll under the pouring spout. The scroll handle is decorated with leaf capping and displays a pronounced thumb piece. The sauceboats are in quite excellent condition and have a good colour. They each display a crisp set of hallmarks on the underside of the foot. They are both of a good weight and they are of the quality which you would expect from these silversmiths. Sauceboats from Scotland are very rare and to find a pair is uncommon.
