The Spoon has a very unusually shaped shell bowl and the stem is modelled with a Celtic point end, which is a typical Irish feature. The stem has crisp bright cut and prick dot borders, an Irish star motif at the top of the stem and a navette shaped cartouche which is engraved with a set of contemporary script initials. The spoon is marked on the reverse with the makers mark, Hibernia and crowned Harp, as you would expect at this date. Similar handles are shown in the Irish section of Norie, Plate 81.
